Overview
I pushed myself to build a full modular asset workflow centered on the temples of Bagan — rich reference, ideal for modularization.
Fieldwork
I spent a day in Bagan shooting photos and doing 3D scans with help from locals. That trip supplied dense, accurate reference material.
The Problem
Bagan's carvings and curved details are extremely intricate — too much to hand-sculpt alone on a tight schedule.
Tech & Workflow
Trained a custom Flux 1.0 model on my Bagan references to generate clean carving and texture images.
Converted those images to 16-bit depth maps using Depth-Anything-V2, then into high-quality meshes.
Cleaned, made tileable, and re-exported as depth/alpha maps for sculpting.
Broke the temple into reusable modular parts for flexible assembly.
Reference For Modulation
Main reference: Sulamani Hpaya (No. 748) — contains nearly every local architectural element and guided the modular breakdown.
Status
Textured in Substance Painter; modular assets nearly finished. Project is paused for another commitment while I refine a realistic, compelling story that a solo creator can deliver.
